SikaTard® R ZA

Set retarding/stabilising admixture

SikaTard® R ZA is a liquid admixture developed for the control of cement hydration. SikaTard® R ZA retards/stabilises sand/cement masonry mortars and concrete mixes.

SikaTard® R ZA retards/stabilises the hydration of the cement for:       Mortar applications:
  • Strong retardation/stabilising to enable brick/block laying to continue over long periods of time.
  • Delays the set of the mortar, however the retarding/stabilising effect declines once in place as the moisture evaporates and migrates due to the sunction of the brick/block enabling setting and curing to occur as normal.
  • Provides higher ultimate strengths.
         Concrete applications:
  • Increase the setting time of concrete.
  • Used in high temperature applications.
  • Used for large concrete pours, to minimize the risk of cold joints.
  • Increase the workability retention time of concrete.
  • After the retardation period, maintains normal concrete hydration and ultimate concrete compressive strengths

Usage

SikaTard® R ZA allows the production of a wide range of applications, both for mortars and concrete, where set retarding/stabilising is requested.

Compatibility

SikaTard® R ZA may be combined with many other Sika products.
Important: Always conduct trials before combining products in specific mixes and contact our Technical Service Department for information and advice about any specific combinations.

DISPENSING

SikaTard® R ZA is added to the gauging water or added with it into the mortar/concrete mixer.

 
Consumption

Recommended Dosage

0.2 – 1.5% by weight of cement (Mortar applications)

0.2 – 0.8% by weight of cement (Concrete applications)

Always perform concrete trials, to determine a suitable dosage for your application.
Application steps

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

The standard rules of good mortar/concreting practice, concerning production and placing, are to be followed.
Laboratory trials shall be carried out before concreting on site, especially when using a new mix design or producing new concrete components.
Fresh mortar/concrete must be cured properly and curing applied as early as possible.
Dosage rates to achieve the desired working life will depend on the type of mortar or concrete required, ambient temperature, sand quality and the desired workability.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened / cured material can only be removed mechanically
