Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow
Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow is a one-part, cementitious, sulphate-resistant concrete repair mortar with high initial and final strengths, suitable for structural repair. It can be applied thixotropically by hand or wet spray, or in a flowable consistency. Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow is suitable for repairing all types of reinforced concrete buildings, civil engineering and marine structures. It has a maximum layer thickness of 80 mm when applied in a thixotropic consistency, or maximum 60 mm in a flowable consistency.

Usage
Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow is used for:- Restoration work (Principle 3, method 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 of EN 1504-9). Repair of spalling and damaged concrete in infrastructure and superstructure works
- Structural strengthening (Principle 4, Method 4.4 of EN 1504-9). Increasing the bearing capacity of the concrete structure by adding mortar
- Preserving or restoring passivity (principle 7, method 7.1 and 7.2 of EN 1504-9). Increasing cover with additional mortar and replacing contaminated or carbonated concrete
- Repairs to reinforced concrete structures requiring a Class R4 mortar
- Horizontal, vertical and overhead repairs
- Concrete exposure classes XC 1-4, XF 1-4, XD 1-3, XS 1-3 and XA 1-2 as described in EN 206
- The Product may only be used by experienced professionals.

SUBSTRATE QUALITY
CONCRETE
Cementitious substrates must be structurally sound and of sufficient compressive strength (minimum 25 N/mm2) with a minimum tensile strength of 1.5 N/mm2.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
TREATMENT OF CRACKS AND JOINTS
The incorrect assessment and treatment of cracks may lead to a reduced service life and reflective cracking.
- Use Sikadur® or SikaInject® resins to fill all construction joints and existing static surface cracks in the substrate before full layer application.
- Continue existing movement joints into the new floor screed.
CONCRETE
- Clean the substrate thoroughly so it is free from dust, loose material, surface contamination and material which reduces adhesion, prevents suction or wetting by the repair materials.
- Remove delaminated, weak, damaged and deteriorated concrete and where necessary, sound concrete. Remove using mechanical hand-held tools, high or ultra-high-pressure water blasting equipment or scarifying equipment with subsequent abrasive blasting.
- Remove sufficient concrete from around corroded reinforcement to allow cleaning, application of a corrosion protection coating (where required) and compaction of the concrete repair mortar.
- Prepare repair surface areas in simple square or rectangular layouts to avoid shrinkage stress concentrations and cracking while the repair material cures. This can also avoid structural stress concentrations from thermal movement and loading during the service life.
- Prepare concrete and cementitious substrates to a minimum substrate roughness of 2.0 mm according to EN 1766.
STEEL REINFORCEMENT
- Remove rust, scale, mortar, concrete, dust and other loose and deleterious material which reduces bond or contributes to corrosion.
- Prepare surfaces to bright steel, Sa 2 (ISO 8501-1), using abrasive blast cleaning or high-pressure water blasting equipment. Ensure the back of the rebar is also clean.
FORMWORK (IF APPLICABLE)
- Select suitable formwork of sufficient strength to contain Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow.
- Ensure all edges and joints of the formwork are sealed tightly to prevent leakage or seepage.
- Clean the formwork.
- Apply release agent such as Sika® Separol® to the formwork. Do not contaminate the substrate with the release agent.
PRE-WETTING
Sufficient saturation of the concrete substrate prior to application enables the mortar to gain its full mechanical properties.
- Thoroughly pre-wet the prepared concrete substrate for a minimum of 2 hours before application.
- Keep the surface wet and do not allow to dry.
- The final pre-wetted surface must achieve a dark matt appearance without standing water (saturated surface dry).
MIXING
- Pour the minimum specified quantity of clean water into the mixing vessel.
- Gradually add the powder to the water while stirring slowly.
- Mix for at least for 3 minutes until a uniform, lump-free consistency is achieved.
- If necessary, add small amounts of water, within the allowed range, to adjust consistency. Do not exceed the maximum water content.
- Check the consistency after every mix.
APPLICATION
IMPORTANT
Strictly follow installation procedures
Strictly follow installation procedures as defined in Method Statements, application manuals and working instructions which must always be adjusted to the actual site conditions.
ON-SITE CONDITIONS
-
In draughty areas, open spaces, at temperatures less than +10 °C or in very dry climates, early plastic shrinkage cracks may occur due to rapid moisture loss. Confirm substrate moisture content, product, substrate and air temperatures prior to application.

In hot weather, store bags in a cool environment and use cold mixing water to assist with controlling the exothermic reaction.
-
In cold weather, store bags in a warm environment and use warm mixing water to assist with achieving strength gain.
REINFORCEMENT CORROSION PROTECTION COATING
Where a reinforcement coating is required, apply to the whole exposed circumference Sika MonoTop®-1010 or SikaTop® Armatec®-110 EpoCem®. Refer to the individual Product Data Sheets.
BONDING PRIMER
On a well prepared and roughened substrate or for a sprayed application, a bonding primer is generally not required.
When a bonding primer is required to achieve the required adhesion values, use Sika MonoTop®-1010 or SikaTop® Armatec®-110 EpoCem®. Refer to the individual Product Data Sheets.
BONDING SLURRY
A bonding slurry made of diluted Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow can be applied by hard brush instead of a bonding primer. Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow is applied as a repair mortar wet on wet on to the bonding primer or bonding slurry.
THIXOTROPIC CONSISTENCY – MANUAL APPLICATION
- Remove excess water from within the surface pores and cavities with a clean sponge.
- If no bonding primer was applied, scrape a thin layer of Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow over the complete substrate surface to fill surface pores or cavities.
- Apply Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow wet on wet, without forming voids, and observing the minimum and maximum layer thicknesses.
- Allow each layer to slightly harden and remain wet before applying subsequent layers.
THIXOTROPIC CONSISTENCY – WET SPRAY APPLICATION
- Remove excess water from within the surface pores and cavities with a clean sponge.
- Place the mixed Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow into the spraying equipment.
- Spray Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow onto the pre-wetted substrate between the minimum and maximum layer thicknesses without the formation of voids.
- Allow each layer to slightly harden and remain wet before applying subsequent layers.
THIXOTROPIC CONSISTENCY – SURFACE FINISHING
- Allow the mortar to surface harden.
- Surface finish to the required surface texture using a stainless steel, steel, PVC or wooden float. Do not add water.
FLOWABLE APPLICATION INTO FORMWORK
- Remove excess water from within the surface pores and cavities with vacuum extraction equipment.
- Pour the mixed Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow wet on wet over the bonding primer or bonding slurry.
- Ensure a continuous flow during the complete pouring operation to avoid trapping air.
FLOWABLE APPLICATION ON FLOORS
- Remove excess water from within the surface pores and cavities with vacuum extraction equipment.
- Pour the mixed Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow wet on wet over the bonding primer or bonding slurry.
- Spread evenly to the required layer thickness.
- Use a screed bar or straight edge to level the surface to a evenness of max. 2 mm, to ensure correct surface finishing.
SURFACE FINISHING USING POWER FLOAT EQUIPMENT
- Start finishing or smoothing (2–4 hours after mixing at +20 °C), when the surface is trafficable by foot leaving small imprints (depth 1–2 mm).
- IMPORTANT Always use Sikafloor®-140 W Troweling Primer as a trowelling aid for machine trowelling. Spray-apply Sikafloor®-140 W Troweling Primer to the mortar surface no more than 15 minutes before the start of the trowelling process. Note Experienced applicators using two machines are required to achieve a highly polished, smooth surface.
- IMPORTANT Do not use heavy ride-on trowelling machines and do not spray water onto the surface while finishing. Finish Sika MonoTop®-4200 Multi Flow with suitable equipment such as trowels or walk-behind power floats with discs.
CURING TREATMENT
Cure immediately after finishing using an appropriate curing method, such as curing compound, moist geotextile membrane or polythene sheet.
Do not use curing compounds if they could adversely affect subsequently applied products and systems.
Protect from wind, rain, frost, and direct sunlight during curing.
CLEANING OF TOOLS
Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.
