Retardan®-200 P

Retarder for Calcium Sulfate Binders

Retardan®-200 P is a high-performance set retarder in powder form for calcium sulfate (gypsum) based binders.

The benefits of Retardan®-200 P include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Very efficient set-retardation, already at very low dosages
  • Allows adjustment of the setting time to the needs of the manufacturing process
  • Compatible to a variety of calcium sulfate binder types and to other additives, such as
   Sika® ViscoCrete® superplasticizers
  • Retardan®-200 P allows the preparation of large mixes and thus reduces the application costs
  • No reduction of final strength of gypsum products (unlike several fruit acids)
  • Uniform quality ensures a stable manufacturing process run as well as uniformity and homogeneity of the final gypsum product
  • Ecologically unproblematic, free of formaldehyde

Usage

Retardan®-200 P provides excellent performance in the adjustment of setting time and workability of calcium sulfate binders, especially in neutral to slightly alkaline alpha and beta-hemihydrate based systems. The product is especially suitable for the following application fields:
  • Production of self-levelling screeds and underlayments
  • Production of moulding and modelling plaster
  • Production of dental and medical plaster
  • Production of gypsum boards, fiber boards, gypsum blocks and elements

Technical Information

Specific Advice

Differences in calcium sulfate binder type, raw material sources, calcining methods, age and storage conditions of the binder and other individual parameters at the plant and/or job site can influence the setting time of gypsum binders and therefore the dosage requirements.

Preliminary testing is required to determine the exact dosage for your specific conditions. Please contact Sika technical service for more information and advice.

Application Information

Compatibility

Retardan®-200 P may be combined with most commonly used gypsum additives, like superplasticizers, stabilizers and defoamers. In combination e.g. with Sika® ViscoCrete® superplasticizers additional improvements in flowability and and setting-time adjustment may be achieved.

  • Always conduct trials before combining products in specific mixes and contact Sika technical service for more information and advice.

Dispensing

Retardan®-200 P is added to the gauging water or directly to the dry-mix. If a pre-dilution is needed, ensure that the water is not contaminated and sufficient preservation agent is added. Please contact Sika technical service for more information and advice.
Consumption

Recommended Dosage

Dosage range for typical applications:

  • Gypsum board production: 0.001 - 0.01 % by weight of binder
  • Dry-mortars: 0.001 - 0.02 % of dry weight
