Sika® Rugasol®-2 Liquid

Surface Retarder for Exposed Aggregate Finishes

A water-based liquid coating that retards the set of the top layer of cement mortar in concrete. When subsequently washed off the aggregates are left exposed.

Usage

  • Rugasol® -2-Liquid is used to provide exposed aggregate finishes in insitu and pre-cast concrete when an architectural finish is required.
  • A mechanical key for subsequent operations is required and formwork patterns are not to be shown.

Storage Conditions

Specific Advice

Sika® Rugasol®-2 Liquid is compatible with all Sika® admixtures for concrete but where high dosage rates of retarder or accelerator are to be used it is advisable to conduct site trials.

A precondition for achieving an acceptable exposed aggregate finish is to have satisfactory concrete quality especially with regard to granulometry of aggregates and to have good placing and compaction procedures.

Site trials are recommended to establish consumption requirements to achieve the required effect especially in variable ambient temperatures.

0.1 - 0.2 l/m² depending on dilution rate and absorbency of formwork.

Sika® Rugasol®-2 Liquid may be diluted with clean water within the range of 1:1 to 1:3 depending on the degree of effect required.
Application steps

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Horizontal surfaces of freshly cast concrete
Allow the surface water of the newly laid concrete to evaporate for between ½ to 2 hours depending on temperature etc. before the application of Sika® Rugasol®-2 Liquid by brush, roller or spray equipment. Ensure an even coverage to give a consistent retardation depth of the concrete surface.

Once the concrete has gained sufficient strength to withstand the cleaning process wash off concrete surfaces carefully with a strong water jet and if necessary use a suitable brush.

   

Wooden formwork
Apply Sika® Rugasol®-2 Liquid by brush, roller or spray equipment. Only apply to clean uncontaminated formwork. After application protect the treated surface from rain and frost. Concreting should be done within 48 hours of the Sika® Rugasol®-2 Liquid application.
After casting the concrete strike formwork as quickly as possible and wash off concrete surfaces with a strong water jet immediately after removing the formwork and if necessary use a suitable brush.
