Sika was seen in full force at the eagerly anticipated launches of BUCO stores throughout South Africa in recent months. The Iliad group recently acquired a series of hardware store groups based around the country and made a strategic decision to revamp these stores thereby creating a strong BUCO brand. BUCO is Iliad Africa’s General Building Materials (GBM) division. They have nearly 50 stores nationwide spread over: Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Eastern Cape, Free State, Northern Cape, North West, Gauteng and Western Cape. In Cape Town the stores were formally known as Campwell Hardware, in Kwa-Zulu Natal, D&A Timbers, and in Gauteng and other regions, the Laeveld Bou stores, various other independents and existing BUCO stores.

Sika’s regional sales teams used these BUCO launches as an opportunity to perform demonstrations and provide general product information at all the stores in the various regions. Several of Sika’s products were showcased and Sika representatives offered general technical advice to passing customers as well as training to the store staff, focusing on the waterproofing and sealing and bonding product ranges. Each of the stores ran added value specials for the duration of their launch, and Sika was happy to contribute towards these promotions. Feedback from representatives was that good celebratory vibes were flying high in all stores, from staff to suppliers as well as customers. Phillip Boshoff, Sika Area Sales Manager, Cape Town, said that top management were flown in for all the store launches in the Cape Town region and were bussed from store to store where they were welcomed. “At the BUCO Bergvliet store, all the customers and suppliers were welcomed by two men playing the bagpipes. An all round successful launch and Sika looks forward to growing with the BUCO brand,” said Boshoff.
